Variety of programming

Our programming is varied and ranges from computer / iPad training to pickleball to congregate meals. Currently, programming takes place in a variety of locations within the city of Thompson, but the Board is looking into developing its own seniors centre to host and add to existing programs.

Advocacy

Advocacy

For two years, we have been advocating for the return of medical foot care to Thompson. This is an important service for those who do not have the flexibility or strength to look after their own feet adequately. This is an important service for those who are developing deformities and other problems that come with age. And it is an important service for people of any age group who suffer from complications associated with diabetes and other disease.

To date, we have been unsuccessful in getting this service returned to Thompson or becoming an insured service with Manitoba Health, but we will continue our work.

Keeping Seniors/Elders active in our community

We continue to operate the special bike program that enables people of all mobility challenges to enjoy the outdoors. We have introduced pickleball to young and old alike. And we continue our congregate meals and Seniors Drop-ins.

We also hold community events, like the Bring Your Bloomers event on Canada Day or the Cookie Decorating Contest in October. We look after the Child Find booth at Nickel Days and participate in the annual Trade Show and Leisure Mart. And we look for other ways to involve our senior population in the community.

We host several fundraising activities. One is an annual entertainment event in which we bring top entertainers to the stage for the community. And of course, we hold raffles and draws.

But our major goal is to have a seniors’ centre of our own, so we can meet or drop-in whenever the mood strikes us. Most of our fundraising will be aimed at achieving this goal.
